Mel’s bracelets – Friends of Mel Foundation in Rockland, Mass – This started In 2005: a small circle of friends joined together to raise funds for cancer research in memory of their dear friend Mel Simmons (who was from Hingham, Mass.). Instead of a hopeful $5,000 the women raised an incredible $1 million in that first year. Since then, the foundation has gifted a total of $3 million to 45 different cancer causes around the country. Known for Mel’s Bracelets, colorful beaded bracelets that have a global following of half a million women – they symbolize friendship, love and support.
