This weekend I attended the Blog Better Boston Style Summit at The Boston.com headquarters. Â It was so much fun and nice to meet so many talented and stylish bloggers from around Boston.

We received some nice goodies in the gift bag! But most importantly I learned a lot about ways to improve your blog, how to connect with your readers and tools for success. It was also fun to see the fashions. Of utmost importance there were simple tips from bloggers:

NECN interviewed me for their Money Saving Monday segment about saving money on birthday parties! My kids had so much fun preparing and being a part of the segment. Here is the clip!
I knew there was a good reason I decided to get another dog – less stress! According to this Huffington Post article there are benefits to pet ownership.
If you heard the back story about my first dog we purchased the year before last IT WAS A NIGHTMARE! Unfortunately as first time dog owners we had a puppy (my recommendation is if you are a first time dog owner:Â do NOT get a puppy) and really did not know what to do.
We had several dog trainers telling us what to do and what not to do (in many instances it was the complete opposite information). Our cockapoo looked adorable but had food aggression, resource guarding, biting and attacking issues. He would attack people when they came to the door. He bit several people throughout the year we had him. I think it was the breeding as we bought him from a very nice woman who was not really a breeder but just lived on a farm and had some dogs. Lesson learned.  Luckily, we were able to go through a rescue organization and he is with an adult woman (with grown kids).
I thought I would love to go to a shelter to save a dog, but given that I had allergies it was tough to find a hypo-allergenic dog at a shelter. While looking on the site for The North East Animal Shelter in Salem, MAI saw a few Carin Terrier type dogs (you know, Toto from the Wizard of Oz?) and when we went there a few of them were not good with kids, but then we met Brady. All I was concerned about is, “Is he good with Kids? Does he Bite?” He looked a little scrappy and un-kept, but he was so sweet, shy but not skittish.   He did not seem to shed too much. He is definitely Carin and something else. We think boxer. It’s almost like below his chest he sheds somewhat but his hair on his head does not.  So far it’s been almost two weeks and he is so respectful of the house and our space. He is also older and has not eaten the stairs, my shoes or the guinea pig.  We have taken him everywhere and he has been in several situations with kids, babies, multiple visits from several people in our home and all seems well. We go to the vet in a week and a half so should know more about him then!

What are you doing to take care of mother earth? There are so many things we can do such as recycle, support eco-friendly companies and buy earth friendly products. I had a chance to test out a few eco-friendly items. Each of the companies sent me the products to test out. I love all of them. Here are my thoughts on Pacifica’s new natural mineral make-up and skin care collection, blow prohair products and Desert Essence products (which is offering free shipping on their web site for all orders today for Earth Day!)
Desert Essence – from their bath and body line is the wonderful smelling coconut body washand moisturizer. For only $8.99 the body wash is so soothing and the hand and body lotion is just as decadent. Â Ingredients include Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter and Organic Jojoba Oil. Of course the products are formulated without Parabens, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth, Sulfates, Phthalates and Artificial Colors and no Animal Testing. We *heart* this company!
Blow Pro – Blow Pro products are a dream come true. Back in 2005, blow® opened the world’s very first blow dry bar in Manhattan. They then created & launched blowpro® products in 2008 to give better blow dry results at home. The products are free of harsh sulfates, parabens & sodium chloride. We loved the conditioner and the straight to the point styling cream. It made morning blow outs much easier. I have been looking for a dry shampoo that had less chemicals in it and found it in the faux dry shampoo. Ladies, you really should not be washing your hair every day and this product will hold you over until you wash your hair! The blow out spray is light and refreshing.
Pacifica’s new natural mineral make-up and skin care – The good karma skin care set is the one to get if you like to test out products and don’t want the commitment. But believe me you will want to order all of these essentials in full size! Â The kit comes with face wash, day and night cream, a BB cream(hard to find in a natural, chemical free version) and their color quench lip tint (smells so good in guava berry) I loved this company from day one. I was looking for a more natural perfume for my two tween girls and bought the Island Vanilla in the roller ball. Then I went on to buy for myself the body wash, lotion, spray perfume, soap and I especially love the solid perfume for travel. I just noticed they have the reed diffuser for the home and candles which are USA made. Oh my, a must get for me! Â Another one of my favorites is the Indian Coconut Nectar as it is a perfect scent for the summer! The value collection set is great and you can layer the products. All the skin care and color is formulated without phthalates, parabens, sulfates, propylene glycol, benzene, GMOs, mineral oil, petroleum, peanut oil and triclosan!
