I came to the conclusion after a couple days away to lovely long island in the winter that my kids only need a nice hotel pool, free treats from that hotel in the afternoon and an arcade nearby and they are all set and have a grand time.

It’s February school vacation week! My kids love to pack and have several bags packed days ahead of time. (I guess you could say one for each day) It looks like we are going away for a week! But just a couple days. I am a sucker for any travel bag and whenever I see a small case, zippered compartment tote or make-up bag that works I have to get it.  But over the years some just don’t work quite right. I found this small train case cosmetics bag at Target by Sonia Kashuk and it functions brilliantly. One side is for brushes, eyeliner and lipliners and the other deeper side is perfect for the rest. Plus there is no digging as you can see everything. I like when I find a deal that works well and this “snakeskin” small cosmetics bag just works.

If you have young kids they (or should I say you) are probably choosing a cute outfit to put on for Valentine’s Day. I always liked to dress my kids in red on this day. My girls also love their hair accessories. I am so impressed with the quality and cuteness of lizzieizziejames.com. I just got a great haircut from Jackie at Anthony David Salon in Burlington. I will be going back for my color! I love when I find a place that is clean, the receptionist is nice, the stylists are down to earth and the cuts and color are affordable. I have found that and more at Anthony David Salon. If you are in need of a fresh cut and color check them out. The salon is offering 20% off for new clients. They also have their 20/20 referral program in which if you refer a friend, you each receive 20% off. Also, now until March 31st they have a special program: the client that refers the most new clients to the salon before March 31st will receive a blowout party for three of their friends on Thursday evening (4/4/13). They will be serving wine too! I also like that they use more natural products. For example they use NaYo, a revolutionary new, yogurt-based, hair coloring system—created by Kemon, Italian Hair Fashion that is free of ammonia, PPD dyes and unpleasant aromas. No school on Friday and there was lots of hanging around this weekend! How did you survive this stormy weekend? Luckily just this past week we took a cupcake decorating course at our local library so there was baking of sweet treats and lots of playing outside in the snow. While this was hyped as the biggest blizzard since the storm of 78′ it certainly did pack a punch but I didn’t think it was that bad. We were much more prepared both from a food standpoint and baking supplies as well as the clean-up crews and the fact that the governor banned all non-essential personnel from driving! All and all it was a fun, relaxing weekend filled with outdoor play and sweet treats inside.
